Arctic Epoch - Singapore

Team project captures the scenery in Singapore a few months after the snowstorm strikes, using Maya, Substance Painter & Designer, Zbrush, Rhino, GitHub, and UE5

Role: Level Design, 3D Modeling (buildings, Merlion, Ships), Set Dressing

World Setup - Greyboxing

We chose the site near the Marina Bay Sands, I made some preparation to get the scale and location of objects right.

A. Using Rhino and CadMapper to get the general city map

B. Story board and our world map

C. Greyboxing in UE5 and refine the scope, then later we decided to start the scene in the middle of Marina Bay

3D Assets - Merlion & Icicles on Frozen Merlion

The difficult part of Merlion is how it looks with icicles on it. We tried different approach: Houdini and Maya. Although the icicle generator works well, it covers too much space of Merlion and disturbs the silhouette of it. So we chose a more artistic way to create icicles in Maya.

3D Assets - Cruise Ship & Secure Vessel & Broken Car

After we settle down the pipeline of how to generate snow on objects, we decided to put more focus on the frozen water instead of city streets due to the scope. I am trying to make a frozen cruise ship that is stuck in the middle of water, and a secure vessel to add more juice in the world.

3D Assets - Buildings

The task of constructing surrobuildings involves striking a balance between the level of detail I choose to incorporate, given that they will be situated at a distance and potentially obscured by snow and fog. If I opt for excessive detail, it may exceed the project's scope, whereas if I keep it too basic, the overall aesthetic may appear cheap.
