AI in Animation Pipeline

captivates the tale of Pangu with animated clips using both traditional and AI tools

One Semester Team (of 5) Project

Platform: Unreal Engine5 & Documentation

Software: Houdini, Maya, AI Tools, Niagara System, Shotgrid

Role: Technical Artist

The project aims to integrate AI generative tools into the traditional 3D animation studio pipeline and explore the pros and cons of using AI tools. Besides hand model individual asset, I am establishing procedural asset pipeline to better cooperate with various AI tools. I am also trying to polish the dry ice / clouds/ mist effect using UE5 Niagara system.

Mountain Generator & AI Texture

In order to produce multiple iterations to test AI tools, using procedural approach offers maximum flexibility

Stylized Clouds & AI Texture

Initially, I am going for the physical clouds due to the tale of the story: the sky and the earth are still merged with each other, so the clouds are still not turning into gas. I have tried both manual and procedural approaches to create stylized clouds.

However, we need more momentum in the scene, so I tried three types of VFX clouds utilizing Niagara system and shader. There are shaped clouds, dry ice effect using particle system, and dry ice effect using just shader.

Niagara System - Dry Ice Effect, Shaped Clouds, Dripping Clouds, Fog Shader, Explosion Visual Effect, Dust Wave.
